State Relations

We are Texas A&M’s liaison with members and staff of the Texas House and Senate, engaging Executive branch offices (such as the Governor’s Office of Budget and Planning and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board) to continue fulfilling the university's land grant mission by serving the State of Texas and its citizens. We are part of the A&M System Government Relations (GR) Team, a coordinating body of A&M System government relation officers that work in unison to advance System goals.

Serving as the conduit for engagement by State Legislative members and their staff, we work in unison with other units throughout campus to develop and coordinate engagement with state officials. We seek to highlight the tremendous investment in educational activities occurring at Texas A&M, providing students with high-impact transformational learning experiences that will positively transform their lives, and impact the citizens of Texas.

Undergraduate researchers from Texas A&M and UT-Austin are pictured with House Higher Education Committee Chair, Rep. Chris Turner. Students from both schools joined together to celebrate Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol 2019, where they participated in a poster session discussing their undergraduate research, and visited offices of Legislators to thank them for their support of higher education. State Representative John Raney (2nd from left) was on campus to provide remarks during the 50th anniversary celebration of the Texas A&M Cyclotron Institute, jointly supported by the U.S. Department of Energy and the State of Texas. State Representative Lynn Stucky visited the Texas A&M Veterinary Emergency Team (VET) while they were deployed in Houston and the Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Dr. Stucky is a veterinarian, a member of AVMA, and a lifetime member of TVMA. He has served on animal advisory boards for Bayer Animal Health International and Denton County and is a longtime North Texas State Fair veterinary volunteer for the PRCA rodeo. Dr. Stucky contributed supplies and took some time to talk with VET members about their response work. Four Texas A&M University faculty members attend a reception on March 6, 2017, hosted by Governor Greg Abbott in Austin. The reception honored the researchers recruited through the Governor’s University Research Initiative program (GURI) and officials from three Texas universities at the Texas Governor’s mansion. The honorees from Texas A&M were Dr. Girish Saran Agarwal, Dr. Richard B. Miles, Dr. Thomas J. Overbye and Dr. George M. Pharr IV. Aggie Students in Austin, Texas for Orange & Maroon Day 2017 Volunteers from The Association of Former Students and Texas Exes in Austin for Orange and Maroon Legislative Day 2017, pose with Texas Legislators and staff alumni from both institutions on the steps of the state capitol. The Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp, Texas A&M University President Michael K. Young, and Dr. Eleanor M. Green, the Carl B. King Dean of Veterinary Medicine host Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick of Texas for a tour of the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVM) on Feb. 15 to see the many ways the world-renowned veterinary college serves Texas and impacts Texans.
